Our History

1993

The Beginning.

Desbuild was founded by Ananth Badrinath and Prakash Hosadurga — two civil engineers who began as classmates, became friends and colleagues, and ultimately business partners in building a shared vision.

1994

Desbuild secures its first contracts with major institutions in Washington, D.C. — the Organization of American States and Walter Reed Army Medical Center. These early wins mark the beginning of Desbuild’s long-standing partnerships with public and federal agencies.

1997

Desbuild was awarded SBA (8a) Certification.

1997

Desbuild is awarded a 3-year, $99 million Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) by NAVFAC Washington, D.C., further expanding its federal portfolio. In addition, Desbuild secures a Roofing MACC Contract, strengthening its capabilities in specialized construction services.

1998

Desbuild was awarded its First IDIQ/ MACC Contract with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers-Baltimore district.

2000

Desbuild establishes its permanent headquarters in Hyattsville, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C. Hyattsville remains the company’s home base today, reflecting Desbuild’s deep roots in the region.

2001

  •  Desbuild is awarded its first overseas contract by the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Building Operations (OBO) — a complete renovation of the U.S. Consulate General in Chennai, India. This marks the start of Desbuild’s global operations and an exciting new chapter for the team.
  • Desbuild is awarded a 9-year Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) by the Pentagon Renovation Program (PENREN) — supporting the renovation of various spaces within the Pentagon and strengthening our long-term partnership with the U.S. Federal Government.

2002

Desbuild secures key federal contracts, including an IDIQ with the Architect of the Capitol, an SBMACC with NAVFAC Washington, D.C., and a MACC with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, further expanding its government portfolio.

2003

Desbuild wins a prestigious contract to replace the roof of the East and West Wings of The White House, a landmark project that highlights the company’s trusted expertise in high-profile, sensitive construction work.

2004 to 2005

  • Yates Desbuild Joint Venture is awarded an $86 million contract by U.S. Overseas Building Operations for the design and construction of the new U.S. Consulate in Mumbai, India.
  • Desbuild is awarded a Design-Build contract for the NOXBUILD project in Kingston, Jamaica, further expanding its international portfolio.

2005

  • Desbuild is awarded two IDIQ contracts by the U.S. Department of State’s Overseas Building Operations (OBO), expanding its global reach and reinforcing its role as a trusted partner in diplomatic facility construction.
  • Desbuild secures a contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) for the construction of a new clinic at the Bahrain (Persian Gulf) Naval Base, along with critical airfield upgrades — further demonstrating its capabilities in delivering complex projects overseas.

2005 to 2007

Desbuild secures multiple IDIQ contracts, including with the U.S. Navy at four locations, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Baltimore, MD, and the Pentagon. The company also successfully completes IDIQ projects at Federal Resort facilities and VA Hospitals, further demonstrating its versatility and reliability.

2006

Desbuild proudly graduates from the 8(a) program, serving as a role model for many small businesses striving for growth and long-term success in the federal marketplace.

2008

Desbuild is awarded the contract to construct the new U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey, Mexico, marking another significant step in the company’s global portfolio of diplomatic facility projects.

2008 to 2012

Desbuild forms multiple Joint Ventures to expand its footprint with U.S. Overseas Building Operations projects at key international locations, including London (England), Bogotá (Colombia), Hyderabad (India), Ankara, Adana, and Astana (Turkey).

2012

Desbuild is awarded the contract to construct a new power plant in Baghdad, Iraq, showcasing its expertise in complex infrastructure projects in challenging environments.

2012 to 2016

Desbuild significantly expands its overseas operations, securing major contracts with U.S. Overseas Building Operations across New Zealand, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey, India, Canada, Singapore, Greece, Kuwait, China, Angola, and numerous other countries. These key years mark the company’s establishment as a global player and the forging of strong, lasting partnerships around the world.

2014

Desbuild opens a new office in Jacksonville, Florida, strengthening its presence in the Southeast U.S. region. At the same time, the company is awarded a 5-year Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) by NAVFAC South-East, initiating key projects at Naval Base Key West and other Navy installations.

2016

Desbuild opens an office in Norfolk, Virginia, expanding its regional footprint. Concurrently, the company is awarded a 5-year Multiple Award Construction Contract (MACC) by NAVFAC Mideast, further strengthening its presence in key military markets.

2018

Desbuild proudly celebrates 25 years in business, marking a quarter-century of delivering high-quality construction services and building trusted partnerships across the U.S. and around the world.

2018 to 2021

Desbuild expands its domestic operations beyond the Washington Metro area into Florida, Georgia, New York, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, North Carolina, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas — supported by IDIQ contracts with the U.S. Navy, General Services Administration (GSA), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

2020

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Desbuild adapts swiftly to meet evolving health and logistical challenges — overcoming global hurdles to keep operations running as smoothly as possible. The company successfully continues critical work worldwide, including on a major U.S. Consulate project in Wuhan, China, at the heart of the pandemic.

2022-2025

Desbuild continues to grow, expanding its joint ventures with small businesses through the Mentor-Protégé Program while further extending its global reach. The company proudly delivers embassy and consulate projects in countries such as Mauritania, Colombia, Kazakhstan, Poland, and the Dominican Republic — with many more around the world.
